Purpose-Built Volkswagen-Red Bull Baja Race Touareg TDI Trop
What you see here is the skinless chassis and two renderings of the
Volkswagen-Red Bull racing Touareg that will be introduced to the
public at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week. The purpose-built Baja
racing truck is the first turbodiesel Trophy Truck to race in the SCORE
off-roading series.
In a racing series dominated by big, burly
trucks, you'd think that diesels were a fact of life, but this trucks'
5.5 liter clean-diesel V12 engine is a groundbreaker. With 550
horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque on tap, the Volkswagen and Red
Bull-sponsored Race Touareg TDI Trophy Truck shouldn't have any problem
proving its worth.
The Race Touareg TDI Trophy Truck's
suspension was designed in California by Arciero Miller Racing, and
features double A-arms up front and a four-link rear that provide
twenty-five and thirty inches of suspension travel, respectively. Fox
Racing shocks, Eibach coil springs and massive BF Goodrich KRT tires
are also used.
The Race Touareg TDI Trophy Truck is scheduled to run the 634-mile 41st Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.
