2012 VW Jetta Test Mule First Spy Photos
Spied for the first time in mule form, here are photos of the next
generation Volkswagen Jetta VI cold weather testing in Lapland. Wearing
the body of a Jetta V model, it appears to have a longer wheelbase than
normal, the front bumper fit is slightly off and the front wheel arches
seem wider than normal too.
Known in most markets as the Jetta it also goes by the names Bora,
Sagitar, Vento and Atlantic. The first generation Jetta in 1980 was
targeted to the American market as a Golf with a trunk. Since then the
Jetta has become the best-selling European car in North America unlike
its more internationally famous Golf sibling.
Lately though, starting with Jetta V, VW has sought to distance the
car more from the Golf's younger, sportier, compact image and closer to
an Audi A4 by placing it a little more upscale as a family semi-executive sedan.
The current model Jetta V was launched in Europe in 2005 and our spied
successor is expected to launch in 2012.
